The boot review – September 2017

The Premier league is back with a bang after the international break along with the champions league and it seems we just can’t get enough football at the minute. To make things better, most Sunday league teams are back in action. That is the pinnacle of the week for most of us, we go out to the pitch with the intention of being the most complete baller on the field, dictating the game and dominating it. For all of you, that starts with a solid football boot, one that does not let you down, one that you can trust. So here are my top boots new boots that are just out, something fresh for you to wear.

The first boot I have up is the Nike Mecurial Vapor XI FG from the Nike Rising Fast Pack. These boots have a silver-blueish colour scheme along with bold pink nike brandings. The boot has the same tech specs as the Euro 2016 edition released last year however, this colourway is sure to be a hit with a younger generation. These boots are made for speed demons as the 3D speed plate grips to the firm ground like no other boot. The combination of the armory blue and pink are the real selling point of these boots and I agree. These boots retail around the €200 mark.

Next up is New Balance. New Balance has been somewhat of a revelation since the Boston-based company decided to branch into the football boot market. That trend continues with the New Balance Visaro 2.0 Pro FG. These boots come in either a blackout or whiteout edition and is sure to be a hit. The visaro seems to be the better of the two boots that New Balance make, the Furon and the Visaro and the K-leather edition.  The Visaro is a boot made for creativity on the pitch. The pro form of these boots adds incredible comfort to the soft material used on the inside of the boot. The Fresh Foam EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) midsole provides a smooth template for your foot when sprinting or changing direction. The boots will retail in the region of €180.

The latest from Adidas is the limited edition Thunderstorm Pack and my goodness they did not disappoint. The Nemesis, Ace and X all got a deadly new colour upgrade. I am going to look at the X 17+ Purespeed and X 17.1. These boots got an awesome metallic green/core black/solar yellow combination. The sleekness of these boots is second to none. The one piece techfit compression with lace cover provides a clean striking area on the boot along with ‘chaos’ stud alignment these boots are built for explosive speed. The X17+ Purespeed will retail for €280 and the X17.1 will retail for €200. Adidas X 17+ Purespeed FG- Metalic Green/Core Black/Solar Green
Adidas X17.1 FG – Metalic Green/Core Black/Solar Yellow

Next on the list is Nike Hpervenom Phantom III SG- Pro AC- Laser Orange/White/Black/Volt. These boots are made from one piece if flyknit which allows them to be extremely lightweight and durable. Nike has designed these boots around the ability to strike the ball cleanly and be able to change direction quickly. The foam pods on the upper of the boot improve the connection with the football when striking. They also allow for a softer touch giving the way to better control. The boot has flywire dynamic which gives the but a snug and secure fit so that there is little slippage where there are sharp changes in direction. This particular boot has an Anti-clog sole plate that is extremely useful now that the pitches are becoming wetter and damper. It reduces the grass and mud from sticking to the boot by the way in which the studs are configured. Overall this is a brilliant boot and is worn by the likes or Harry Kane and John Stones.

Finally I have the New Balance Furon 3.0 K-Leather FG – Black/Red. These boots have been made with the softest of K-leather material. The design of these boots is similar to the synthetic boot however it has been replaced by quality K-leather. The K-leather is the upper of these boots allows for real feel of the ball control and touch. It also has Fantom fit overlays around the heel and sole of the boot for increased durability and comfort. The sole plate is also fixed with triangular studs for increased traction. These boots will retain for €180 but have already been reduced to €145 on some sites.  These boots offer that something different if that is what you are looking for.

There are some really sweet boots in this post, I hope you like them.

Let me know what you think.

Asos Menswear -New semester wish list

The start of the new semester is upon us and what to wear to college is one of the questions we ask ourselves on a daily basis. Whether you want to dress up smart-casual or relaxed with minimal effort here are some of my Asos menswear wish list for going back to college. Students don’t forget that Asos offer a 10% student discount. The discount is got by verification process through your student email address.

First on my list is the adidas Originals Adicolor Linear T-Shirt this is new from Adidas and seems to be an upgrade from theirhighly successful California t-shirt. This t-shirt will go great with a pair of jeans and fresh kicks, perfect for going to lectures or studying in the library, the top could also double up as t-shirt that could be worn on a casual night out with a pair of black ripped jeans. There are various colours too so you have plenty of choices.

The next item I have picked out is the ASOS 3 Pack Longline Muscle T-Shirt In White/Black/Charcoal. These are great for someone who has a muscle-fit build are able to wear long length t-shirts. They go great with either a bomber jacket or a denim jacket as the length of the t-shirt is longer than the length of the jacket to give your look that bit more class. Here the asos model rocks the look with a pair of black skinny jeans turned up and fresh white kicks.

The shoes I have picked out are an absolute gem of a pair as they are versatile for most looks. The Vans Old Skool Classic Trainers are a retro trainer than go well with jeans, trousers and even shorts. They are a fail-safe shoe that are comfy, slick and modern. They are a bargain as well for only €74. A definite must have.

The ASOS Muscle Fit Bomber Jacket With Sleeve Zip in KhakiASOS Muscle Fit Bomber Jacket With Sleeve Zip in Khaki is one of my favourite items from this list, it is a perfect green colour for the new autumn/winter season 2017. The bomber jacket has been somewhat of a revelation in recent years and that trend looks set to continue. This bomber is a muscle fit jacket but I think that it would suit most body types. It is a perfect match with the long line t-shirts I mentioned above.

Adidas never seem to have a bad day at the office, and this continues with the adidas Originals Adicolor TNT Tape Crew Sweatshirt In Black. It is a modern take on a retro original with TNT (Adidas) tape that runs down the sleeve of both arms. It is one of the freshest sweatshirts out there and that shows in the price. It is at the high-end of the market at €81 but if you want to make that statement and splash out the cash, this is a quality product that will last. If you are feeling extremely brave, there is track suit bottoms to go with the sweatshirt that really rock the adidas look!

Another item that I have my eye on is the Nike Tech Fleece Skinny Joggers In Black. These are the best skinny joggers out there in my opinion and that matches the price of them as they come at a pricey €94. I know this seems crazy but believe me, the quality of these joggers are unbelievable. The skinny fit and cuffed ankle is extremely comfortable. If you are not feeling wearing jeans or trousers for the day, these are the next best thing I would recommend as they are both stylish and comfortable.

One of the most versatile items I have on this list is a pair of Skinny Fit Jeans With Rips In Black from River Island. These jeans are good value too for only €43. They are really easy to either dress up or dress down. They can be worn with a shirt and shoes on a night out or else a t-shirt and trainers when at college. They actually go with most things in your wardrobe and the rips in the jeans add that edge to your look.

To “cap” it all off, we have the adidas Originals Trefoil Cap In Green,  see what I did there. (Quietly laughing to oneself). This colour of moss-green is a brilliant addition to any look. Add this cap to either jeans or joggers and your look is complete, the cap shows you went to that bit extra for the look.

My last item on this list is the a backpack from New Balance. The New Balance Pelham Classic Backpack In Burgundy is a brilliant for its style and price. At only €34, it comes in at a bargain. I went for the burgundy colour but it also comes in black and navy. It comes with a tablet/laptop sleeve inside as well as inner utility pockets for smaller items.

This is my menswear wish list for the new semester and I hope you all really like it and give it a share.

Thanks,

The Prudentstudent.

College Essentials

So the longest summers in the history of summers is finally over us and we can look forward to going back to college, if you are a first year that can be a little daunting but for everyone else, the excitement is crazy. The thought of nights out, sleep-ins in the morning, lazy days and did I mention nights out? Here is a list of  college essentials that you will need to get yourself before you go back.

  1. Laptop or Tablet
This is one of the most important items you need for college. EVERYTHING and I mean everything is done online whatever course you may be doing. From submitting assignments to doing research to even watching some Netflix a laptop/tablet is a must.
Most electrical stores offer really good going to college packages that include things like printers, software, storage and a bag. These starter packs are a really good way to get a deal with all the accessories included. If your do plan to make the big purchase I recommend that you do some research before you go to the store as you want to have an idea what your budget is and what kind of laptop you are into. Then I would recommend speaking to the sales team in a store and telling them exactly what you want. I would also consider getting an after sales service plan/warranty/cover, at the time this may be an extra expense but in the long run you may be glad of it if someone unexpectedly spills tea over your laptop.
Most colleges do offer a short term loaning system for laptops for up to a day or you can make us of their PC’s in the library.
  2. Backpack
A  good quality backpack will be more than useful throughout the year, whether it be your laptop inside or your college books, something that can take a lot of wear and tear will be needed. The big question is fashion or practicality, most will choose the first with little regard for the latter. In most high street shops such as River Island or Topshop, the latest backpack can be got for quite an affordable price that tends the needs of those wanting to make a statement with their backpack. However if you are after more of a practical backpack, JanSport and The Northface offer really good quality bags that have supportive straps for your back.
  3. Notepad
Taking notes is what we go to the lectures to do, that is one of the ways we learn, but how is the most effective way to take notes? One of the ways I find most effective is to use a pukka pad with the dividers for each module in it. This way you only need to carry the one notepad and all your notes are in it. Some people like to have a separate notebook for each module, this is good if the lecturer is putting up a high quantity of notes but remember that the slides will be online after the lecture so there is no need to rush taking down what the lecture has up, it is better to listen to what the lecturer is saying rather than reading. Another way of taking notes is with your laptop and slides open, this works for some people who are quick at typing but for me that is still typing the first word of the first slide 15 minutes in, it doesn’t work. The best thing I recommend is to try out different methods in the first week or two and then stick to one method, if your notes are consistently done one way they will be a lot easier to study.
  4. Storage and Backup
Imagine spending 6 hours doing and assignment 2 days before it is due and your battery dies and you lose the 2,500 words that you have written out with no BACKUP. Yes this did happen me before and yes I felt like crying. One of the any ways around this is backing files and documents up to a cloud drive or external hard drive/USB. There are many cloud servers such as OneDrice, icloud, Google Drive and Dropbox. These all enable you to save your documents online and access them from literally anywhere in the world. This can be quite useful if you are working on a project or assignment and you forget your laptop or it is not working, you can simply log on a different computer and continue where you last left off. Even using USB’s has an advantage incase there is no wifi or internet and you can still work on your assignment even in offline mode.
  5. Battery Pack
This one is probably one of the most useful gadgets of the last 3 years. If like me you are constantly on your phone you notice that your battery does not last that long and more than likely will not get a full day out of it. In that case you need a battery pack if you are constantly on the go between lectures and have little time to be chained to a plug. Battery packs are a great way to stay on the move and have a full battery. Depending on what kind of quality you are after Penny’s battery packs start out at €9.99. If you are looking for a twin port Battery pack, Belkin’s Power Pack 4000 is €24.99.

These are my top essentials for going back to college, let me know what you think. If you enjoyed this blog, I would be really grateful for a share. Thank you !
